Things of Interest

How the children got their names
Kit is a brilliant historian of Medieval history (England, Scotland, American Civil War and the Indian of the old west along with history of movies, to name a few) Like one of those people who you see winning on the game show Jeopardy.

Shane was named for Kit's favorite all time movie and his middle name Arliss for the character in the film "Old Yeller". Dakota Sioux is, for the love of Indian Culture.

Macaulay for Thomas Babington Macaulay and his middle name Carson for Kit Carson of the old west. Kieran and Rory, he was looking for good Irish names that flowed well with Culkin.

Kieran Kyle (who used to be called Kiery Ky when he was a young one).

Rory Hugh, sounds like a beautiful sunset. But it is a good Irish name (Rory) and Hugh is for his maternal grandfather Hubert.

Christian Patrick is close to Christopher and Patrick is for his mother Patricia.

Quinn is for Kit's old friend and someone he considers like a father Anthony Quinn, also because Quinn is 5 as in Quintuplets and she is the fifth child. Her middle name Kay is for her maternal grandmother.

Important Facts
- Patricia and Kit were so poor in the early years that while pregnant with Macaulay they were all temporarily sleeping in Kit's Mustang until they could rent a small tenement apartment.

- Kit negotiated the first million dollar salary for a child actor in the history of show business. ("My Girl"). This before "Home Alone" was released. (read about it in "I Don't Think So", Chapter: Gathering Storm.) His inspiration came from a very famous movie star he had met while performing in "Hamlet" as a teenager.

- Macaulay almost fired from the movie "Uncle Buck" ?

- Macaulay loved to play liar's poker with the teamsters.

- While on a press junket to Japan the hotel was completely surrounded with screaming fans (mentioned also in "I Don't Think So") not written about is that one very sweet, well mannered Japanese girl got through and actually knocked on their hotel room door. When Kit answered the door, the girl bowed and politely asked for an autograph; Kit let her in to meet Macaulay.

- "Jacob's Ladder" opened one week before "Home Alone" without Macaulay's name in any of the credits. Kit had tried to tell the producers through the casting director of the coming success of Mack in "Home Alone" and that to use his name on the opening credits would be in their best interests. The casting director refused to listen and Kit told them to totally remove Mack's name even from the end credits. They did !!!!! One week after "Jacob's Ladder" opened Macaulay Culkin was on his way to being the biggest movie star in the world. "Jacob's Ladder" used his photo on their poster. That casting director still professes to be one of Mack's biggest supporters.

Congratulations Laura!

Laura Bundy and her parents (Lorna, her mother is her personal assistant.) became friends with the Culkins as they lived in the same building in NYC.

Kit is fond of telling stories about his kids piling into the Bundy car to go (continuously) to Laura's starring role in a production of "Ruthless".

He thought she was a terrific talent (indeed one of the most talented child actors around) and extremely dedicated at such a young age (a triple threat he called her) (which means she sings, dances and acts) Kit always knew she would be a big, big star someday.

Jeanette and Kit are very good friends of there's and hope to be able to attend one of the performances.

Congratulations Laura you deserve the best.
